What is HBO Max? : Finally landing on Amazon Fire TV Devices

0 146

HBO Max finally entered the Amazon Fire TV stick, set-top box device, and smart TV. The HBO Max app will replace the current HBO app on those products on Tuesday, November 17. Current subscribers of HBO on Amazon Prime Channels will be able to use their Amazon login information to log in to the new HBO Max app without paying additional fees.

HBO has been the king of exclusive subscription content for the past 50 years and currently operates seven 24-hour channels filled with high-quality original and licensed content.

The company entered the digital age with HBO Now, which was the first step five years ago, which laid the foundation for an expanded service called HBO Max.

This service combines HBO’s impressive library of original shows and movies with more content from its parent company Warner Media into one subscription service. It is not cheap, but you can’t find many such shows and movies anywhere else. So what is HBO Max and is it worth subscribing to?

What is HBO Max?

HBO Max is the streaming service of the Home Box Office and its parent company Warner Media. It is home to all of HBO’s premium TV shows and movies, as well as other shows in the Warner Media Library.

Subscribers can access over 10,000 hours of content, including HBO shows (such as “The Sopranos” and “Game of Thrones”) and recent movies (such as the “Harry Potter” series and Studio Ghibli). It is also the biggest show of the 90s and early 2000s: an exclusive residence for friends.

The service was first launched in the United States in May 2020 and largely replaced the company’s two earlier streaming services, HBO Go and HBO Now. Since then, HBO Go has ceased to exist, and HBO Now has become the default HBO application on certain platforms.

What is the difference between HBO Max and HBO Now?

HBO is now the only way for non-cable users to access HBO content, while cable users point to (now discontinued) HBO Go. With the release of HBO Max, all HBO Go subscribers and most HBO Now subscribers switched to the new service for free.

HBO MAX & HBO NOW

HBO Now is still hanging, and most of the time it is covered by the new service, the reason is related to back-end business transactions. More specifically, Roku and Amazon were unable to reach an agreement with WarnerMedia to host the new HBO Max app and instead renamed the existing HBO Now app to HBO.

If you are not an existing subscriber or are not interested in streaming on Roku or Amazon Fire TV devices, then HBO Max is a better service. They are priced at $14.99 per month, but Max includes more content in the Warner Media catalog, while the others only include HBO original shows and movies.

How does it work?

As with most streaming services, all you need to do is access the service from a computer, phone, or other supported device, select the program you want to watch and then start streaming.

Both the web and application program interfaces divide content into “hubs”, such as Cartoon Network, DC Comics, Studio Ghibli, and of course HBO. This allows you to quickly browse and find what you want to watch.

The media file itself is stored on the remote server, so as long as you maintain a good Internet connection, you will not encounter any lag or pause.

HBO recommends a minimum speed of 5mbps for HD streaming, but you may want to increase the speed slightly for the best experience. You can also download shows and movies to watch offline, but only through the official Android or iOS apps.

Is HBO Max worth it?

HBO Max is currently one of the most expensive streaming media options, which makes it a resolute marketing tool for many budget-conscious consumers. However, if you want to decide whether it is worth buying the service for $14.99, you must consider everything that is offered.

In Android Authority’s own HBO Max review, we found the content provided is impressive, especially when compared to other streaming services. It has a wonderful content library suitable for children and adults to watch, as well as many exclusive HBO series and movies.

Of course, most of these HBO original TV series can also be watched on the air through subscription TV channels. The online streaming service itself only has a small amount of genuine original content (called Max Originals), such as Legendary, Craftopia, On the Record, and Elmo’s not-to-late shows.

The content alone almost makes HBO Max worthwhile, but our biggest complaint is the lack of 4K quality and, more importantly, device support.

The fact that Roku and Amazon TV devices do not support the platform excludes a large portion of streaming enthusiasts. Hope that these companies and HBO can reach an agreement as soon as possible, but for now, this is a major obstacle.

The good news is that if you are unwilling to pay additional streaming fees and have already subscribed to the HBO channel, you are likely to get HBO Max for free. For most cable companies, all you need to do is enter your details into the HBO Max app and everything goes well.

Where is HBO Max available?

Currently, HBO Max can only be streamed in the United States, but the international localized version is planned to be launched in 2021.

The first batch of countries/regions to obtain HBO Max will be in Latin America and Europe, mainly to replace the existing HBO streaming services currently operating in HBO.

A single market. Until then, you can still stream HBO content on your local branch. We will update this article as soon as HBO provides this service in more countries/regions.

HBO Max charges $14.99 per month, the same as HBO Now. This far exceeds services such as Apple TV Plus or Disney Plus, but it provides more content. Click the button below to start a 7-day free trial.

How to get HBO Max for free?

In addition to the 7-day free trial period, there are several ways to get HBO Max for free. The first is to become a current HBO Now subscriber. If you have already paid for HBO’s previous streaming service, you can get HBO Max for free by simply entering your details.

If you subscribe to HBO programming through a cable service, you can also (possibly) get HBO Max for free. HBO has reached agreements with Charter (Spectrum), Altice USA, Verizon, Comcast, Cox, etc. However, if you subscribe to HBO through certain third-party services (such as Amazon Prime Video), you will not be able to use HBO Max.

HBO Max is also included for free in some AT&T plans. The service is currently included in the AT&T Unlimited Elite wireless plan, the first line charges $85, and other lines can enjoy discounts. Certain AT&T TV plans, such as AT&T TV Now Max and DirecTV Premier, also include HBO Max streaming.

What devices does HBO Max support?

HBO Max supports multiple devices, starting with web browsers and Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. Simply download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store for streaming. The service also has applications for Android TV and Apple TV, as well as support for Google Chromecast streaming dongle.

Many smart TVs, such as those made by Samsung, LG, and Sony, are also compatible with HBO Max. Casting and AirPlay 2 technologies support more functions.

Although it does not support Nintendo Switch, it also supports PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. In mid-November, the HBO Max application was launched on Amazon Fire TV devices.

Unfortunately, Roku devices currently do not support the HBO Max application, which occupies a large share of the streaming media device market. For now, you can still stream some HBO content through the Roku HBO app, but it will not include Warner Media content or any other third-party content on HBO Max.

Obviously, WarnerMedia and Roku are about to reach an agreement, but for now, some workarounds allow you to access all content. If you have an Apple iPad or iPhone that can use Airplay 2 and the latest Roku device that supports 4K streaming, you can cast the HBO Max iOS app to the Roku device to watch the content. You can also use the Roku screen mirroring function to watch HBO Max content on the TV through your Android device.
