What is Google Chromecast and why should I care?

0 446

Google Chromecast is a device and system that can be used to send things from one device to another. It’s easy to figure out, set up, and use. With it, you can send YouTube videos on your phone to your TV, or you can send websites on your computer to your TV. Those are just two possibilities.

To help you understand what Google Chromecast is, how it works, and how to use it, we have explained everything you need to know about the HDMI dongle at a reasonable price.

What is Chromecast?

Chromecast is a TV dongle that can be connected to the TV’s HDMI port to add smart features to the TV, such as Netflix streaming. Chromecast is connected to your home network and can then be controlled using a smartphone. This way, you can open the entertainment app on your phone and play content on your TV via Chromecast.

Chromecast

The important thing is that it uses the Google Cast protocol to get the content on the TV, so you need to use the support provided by the source-Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Chrome (browser), Android, and other services to support Google Cast.

Google launched its first Chromecast in 2013 and updated it with Chromecast 2 in 2015, and then updated it with the third-generation Chromecast in 2018. Although all versions support full HD content, the speed of these models of Chromecast has gradually increased and has more powerful Wi-Fi to better keep connected.

In 2016, Google launched Chromecast Ultra, which has the same function as the previous product but has the function of casting 4K streams. Chromecast Ultra also supports Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections to ensure that you can provide a good enough connection for those more demanding streams. Chromecast Ultra is still in use because it is the device that installs Google Stadia on the TV.

Now it’s time to switch to encrypted communication applications

There are rumors that Google will launch a slightly different new Chromecast device. Code-named “Sabrina”, also known as Chromecast Ultra 2, because it supports the 4K HDR standard supported by the original Ultra.

Google also provides Chromecast Audio. Unlike the other three Chromecasts, it does not support video, and audio allows you to “broadcast” wirelessly to speakers and connect via a 3.5 mm connection, although this version is not widely used-mainly because smart speakers widely support audio casting.

How does Chromecast work?

The important point to realize the projection is that it has nothing to do with sending the content of the phone to the Chromecast dongle. In most cases, all you have to do is use your phone to tell the Chromecast device what to play by pointing it to the source. Chromecast then uses its connection to retrieve the stream at the best quality.

How does Chromecast work

For example, if you connect Chromecast Ultra to a 4K TV, it will play 4K content that you cannot watch on your phone. However, if you want to mirror your phone or view a website on your TV, you can send it directly to Chromecast from your phone or computer, and both need to stay connected. This is the case if you have an Android device screen, a tab in Chrome, or a Chromebook desktop.

For Chromecast to work properly, you need to plug it into the HDMI input on the TV/monitor and connect it to a power source. On Chromecast, this may be the USB jack on the back of the TV. For Chromecast Ultra, it must be a wall outlet, or there is not enough power to work.

You also need to install a compatible Android device or iOS device with the latest version of the application, or a compatible Windows computer, Mac, or Chromebook with the latest version of the Chrome browser.

The Google Home application is the same as the application used to control other Google hardware (such as Nest Hub) and set smart home functions to be controlled from a mobile phone.

It’s important to connect your Chromecast and device or computer to the same Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, you will not be able to cast it on the TV.

How to set up Chromecast?

Setting up Chromecast is very simple. The process involves plugging the Chromecast into the TV’s HDMI port and power supply (via a USB or wall outlet on the TV), then installing the Google Home mobile app on the mobile device to begin the setup process, and following the app’s setup instructions.

How to set up Chromecast

The app will automatically find your Chromecast and prompt you to connect it to the same Wi-Fi network as your mobile device.

You can also set Chromecast to work with your computer. Just install the Chrome browser on your computer and then navigate to chromecast.com/setup from your browser to set up Chromecast or you can quickly install the Google Cast extension.

With Chromecast, you can cast movies, TV shows, and photos from Cast-enabled apps on Android smartphones, tablets, iPhones, and iPads.

You can also cast entire websites or tabs through the Chrome browser on Windows computers, Macs and Chromebooks. To manage your Chromecast, use the Google Home app or Google Cast browser extension.

The important thing is that there is no user interface and no remote control-all controls come from the phone or computer.

How to cast Chromecast?

After setting up Chromecast, all you need to do is click the “cast” button from the Cast-enabled application (such as YouTube), and the content will immediately appear on your big TV.

In the Chrome browser on your computer, you can also click the “cast” button in a video player such as YouTube. You will also find the “cast” button in the Chrome browser.

After casting, remember that all the controls come from the phone afterward-so to play, pause or skip, please operate on the phone.

How to cast Chromecast

In the Google Home app, you can click “running” to browse content from installed Cast-enabled apps. You can also click “Get Apps” to find Cast-enabled apps that are not yet installed.

Some websites have Cast-enabled. Currently, YouTube, Netflix, Google Play Movies, Google Play Music, etc. have enabled the Cast function, Google said it has been adding new features.

When you see the “Cast” button on a website in the video player, you will know whether the website has cast enabled. For websites that are not Google Cast-enabled, you can use the Cast extension to view content on your TV.
