Twitter will transfer his @POTUS account on the day of his inauguration to President-elect Biden, the company told Politico. Twitter will transfer the account of Biden even if President Donald Trump has not admitted-he has not yet completed, regardless of the election widely known as Biden earlier this month.
“Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House agency Twitter accounts on January 20, 2021,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge. “As we did for the 2017 presidential transition, we are in close consultation with the National Archives.
Politico reported that other presidential accounts, including @whitehouse, @VP, and @FLOTUS, will also be transferred. Existing content in all accounts will be archived before transfer (If you are interested, you can find Barack Obama’s @POTUS archive here), and these accounts will be reset to show zero tweets.
After Biden takes office, Trump will continue to control his personal account @realDonaldTrump, but due to Trump’s status as a world leader, the account will lose its special protection-which means that he will receive the same as most users. The rules are bound by the platform.
On Saturday, Facebook told Reuters that it would also transfer the official POTUS account on its platform to the incoming government. The company stated: “In 2017, we worked with the Obama administration and the incoming Trump administration to ensure that the conversion of their Facebook and Instagram accounts was seamless on January 20, and we hope to do it here too. at this point.”
