The Uber Apple Watch app is no longer available

There’s some bad news for Apple Watch users who used to hail Uber rides from their watches: you can’t do that anymore. According to recent reports, Uber has silently discontinued its Apple Watch app, which provided users with information about their drivers, estimated arrival times, and the location of their ride in real time.

It is not clear whether the Apple Watch app will remain available for the foreseeable future. Apple Insider reports that launching the app will simply yield the following message (in limited English): “Please switch to the Uber mobile app. We are no longer supporting the Apple Watch app. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Strangely, the app is still listed for download on Uber’s help page, and there’s even a blurb on the App Store explaining how convenient the app is.

It should be noted that this change only affects those who have installed and used the Uber app on Apple Watch. Your Apple Watch should continue to display notifications when you hail a ride using your iPhone.

Uber‘s app for Apple Watch has never been used by me; not only is it easier to hail a ride from my phone, but the Watch app lacks features like Uber Pool, Split Fare, Share My ETA, and Contact Driver.

It seems that Uber’s farewell message made a similar impression on most users, judging by the effort put into it.

Earlier this year, Engadget reported that the company discontinued its WearOS app. According to Lyft, Uber’s competitor, the company discontinued its Apple Watch app earlier, in 2018.
