The audio feed will sound similar to what is available on the platform’s “For You” service, both companies said. There will be music and stories from some of TikTok’s most popular creators about the viral hits on display. A few of the names they mentioned were Billy (@8illy), Cat Haley (@itscathaley), Hindz (@hindzsight), Lamar Dawson (@dirtykingofpop) and Taylor Cassidy (@taylorcassidyj) in particular, though more creators may appear in the future.
There will be several shows on the platform this year, including The TikTok Radio Trending Ten, which will feature the top songs on the platform currently. Each Friday at 3 PM ET, it will be broadcast and rebroadcast throughout the weekend.
The SiriusXm Music app also lets you listen anytime. The channel will also have DJ Habibeats (@djhabibeats) and DJ CONST (@erinconstantineofficial), who will mix trending hits live every Friday and Saturday until 7 PM ET, on TikTok and Tiktok Radio.
TikTok’s influence on music has generated so many Billboard charts that Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, released in 1978, reentered the top 10 again in 2020 after being featured in a TikTok. Similarly, a Fortnite-themed parody of “American Boy” by Estelle, originally uploaded to YouTube in 2018, had a beautiful moment on TikTok.
In a statement, Ole Obermann, TikTok’s global head of Music, noted being delighted to announce TikTok Radio would be available on SiriusXM. SiriusXM’s subscription service now gives SiriusXM Music subscribers access to the newest trends in music and the hottest new artists.
TikTok gives people access to song-breaking music culture, which is the source of so much joy and entertainment. This channel showcases the songs in a video format.
Subscriber base of SiriusXM Music continues to grow — it saw 34 percent year-on-year growth last year to now — but still pales in comparison with streaming giants like Spotify, which has 165 million paying subscribers.
It is the most that SiriusXM Music has ever had – 34.5 million subscribers as of Q2 this year, which is more than Apple Music or Amazon Music. 6.5 million people pay for Pandora subscriptions. As a result of these agreements, SiriusXM and Pandora have become more competitive in both the music streaming and podcasting spaces.
Yet other streaming services are also exploring the opportunity of Gen Z-ers who use TikTok to find catchy songs that they want to listen to full versions of. It is possible to create curated “viral hits” playlists with the two services. The trend is being taken to another level with a full-time satellite music channel.
