On August 13th, Amazon will release the conclusion to the Rebuild of Evangelion 3.0 1.0 film series – an adaptation of the beloved anime Neon Genesis Evangelion created by Hideaki Anno. Amazon says that Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.01 Thrice Upon a Time will make its global premiere on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories.
Along with the final fourth film, fans will also be able to stream Evangelion: 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone, Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance, and Evangelion: 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo.
The final episode from the Evangelion 3.0 1.0 series will be available via Prime Video on Amazon
Despite not specifying when those films will appear on the service, they should be available in time for the August release of Thrice Upon a Time. The following trailer will give you a sneak peek at the new movie:
Evangelion’s “Rebuilds” Evangelion 3.0 1.0 feature a mixture of reworkings of scenes from the original anime and entirely new plot lines and characters introduced specially for the film series.
If you are familiar with Neon Genesis Evangelion from Netflix’s release in 2019, there is lots to explore in the Rebuilds, including interesting departures as well as fully animated Eva battles.
In addition, those who have gone through a mini-existential crisis during the pandemic will probably find many of the films and shows’ themes disturbing.
It seems like Amazon scored a pretty big win over Netflix’s anime empire by snagging Thrice Upon a Time and its predecessors.
Nowadays, most streaming services try to develop an anime strategy, either by acquiring platforms or simply by investing in popular creators. A huge loss for Netflix would have been to add more Evangelion to the two original feature films and the series already available.
