As mobile phone manufacturers have started to use 12GB LPDDR5 DRAM chips this year, Samsung, one of the suppliers, has also prepared for the next stage of memory products. Earlier, they officially announced that they had begun the first 16GB LPDDR5 DRAM in the large-scale volume industry.
It is based on Samsung’s second-generation 10nm-level process and will “lead the high-end mobile market.”
According to reports, this 16GB LPDDR5 is composed of 8 12Gb and 4 8Gb chips, and the transmission speed can reach 5,500Mb / s, which is about 1.3 times that of the previous generation of mobile memory (LPDDR4X, 4,266Mb / s).
Compared with 8GB of LPDDR4X, the new generation of DRAM can save 20% in power consumption, while also bringing twice the capacity.
In the press release, Samsung did not mention when mobile phones equipped with this new product are expected to enter the market. However, they have confirmed that 16Gb LPDDR5 products based on the third-generation 10nm process will begin mass production in the second half of the year.
