Oculus Quest 2 headset details have been Leaked

Details about Facebook’s upcoming Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headset have been leaked. The leak was first discovered by Twitter user Aiman Farooq (via Engadget) and included a series of videos about Quest 2, including detailed information on headset features, available accessories, and the evolution from existing Quest to new models.

The main specification of the headset is that it will use the Snapdragon XR2 chipset, which is an upgrade of the previous Snapdragon 835 used in the original Quest, while the new model will use dual “near 2K” displays.

Compared with the previous model, it also has 2GM RAM, increased from 4GB to 6GB RAM. There is more available storage space, from 128GB to 256GB.

The earphones should also be more comfortable, with an updated strap that can be worn and taken off more easily.

In addition to updating the headset itself, the controller is also being refreshed. They have ergonomic updates to make them more comfortable to use and provide options to support hand tracking, so some games allow you to interact without using a controller at all.

The sound system supporting the 3D sound has been updated. This makes the sound effects appear to be coming from around you, which should help pinpoint the source of the sound during playback.

Some details that are not yet available include the cost of the system. It is not cheap to build a VR system at home, and the high hardware cost has become an obstacle for many gamers to enter.

It remains to be seen how cheap or expensive the new Oculus Quest 2 system is. This leak follows another leak in July this year, showing the appearance of the headset, but the details of the hardware update are new.

Oculus has also caused some controversy recently because it announced a change that requires users to have a Facebook account to use the service.

Existing Oculus users can merge their Oculus accounts with Facebook accounts, but starting from January 2023, all Oculus accounts will be disabled and all users need to log in with their Facebook accounts.
