Samsung and Huawei have marketed their foldable devices as the future of smartphones. However, Chinese rival Oppo has a different view of the future, as its latest concept proves this.
Rollable smartphones are on the way
This concept smartphone is called Oppo X 2021 and was announced during the 2020 INNO Day conference. It has a retractable OLED display and a proprietary Roll Motor powertrain.
At first glance, this product looks like any other smartphone with a 6.7-inch curved display. However, if you like the tablet-like experience, just swipe on the side to expand the display to 7.4 inches.
Unlike foldable smartphones that often have creases or dimples on the screen, Oppo X 2021 has a completely flat panel. The powertrain described above makes it possible to generate constant force.
The scroll motor also allows users to unfold the display as much as needed, which means you can find the most suitable position without worrying about fixing it to 6.4 inches or 7.4 inches.
To ensure that everything is always protected, Oppo X 2021 includes 2-in-1 tablet technology that supports the display. There is also a sliding frame to protect the rolling motor and other internal components.
Since Oppo X 2021 is a concept smartphone, there are no plans for immediate release. However, there is no doubt that this device will become the basis for future models that will eventually be marketed in the future.
