Apple will release macOS Monterey on October 25th.

At WWDC 2021, Apple introduced a controversial new Safari tab design, and since then, the company has tweaked that look and even added the ability to turn off some features. With macOS Monterey, Apple is returning to the way tabs looked in the past.

Apple’s official webpage for the upcoming software update shows example screenshots of Safari’s older (but arguably better) design on both a Mac and iPad in the section titled “Access Tab Groups anywhere.” (source: Daring Fireball).

MacRumors points out that the old design is now default, after observing the reverted tabs in macOS Monterey‘s release candidate.

MacRumors reports that if you wish to use Apple’s WWDC announcement, where tabs function as URL bars, you can turn it on in the preferences.
