  • The LG G8X ThinQ’s second screen accessory gives you two displays, which makes multitasking easier and gaming more comfortable.
  • The water-resistant phone also has a headphone jack, expandable memory, and wireless charging.

(-) Against

  • The case makes the phone bulky and thick.
  • When viewing shared content on both screens, there is a thick hinge down the middle.

LG ThinQ Dual Screen

G8X ThinQ (omitted ThinQ later) is an “upgrade” for G8 ThinQ, which was announced at the Spring MWC, but with some hardware, parameters changed. The G8X has the same secondary screen as the V50 to form a dual-screen display.

The G8X’s display is larger than the G8, but with lower resolution: the G8X is 6.4-inch Full HD+, while the G8 is 6.1-inch QHD+. It is worth mentioning that the G8X finally used the fingerprint on the screen.

In addition, the main camera of the G8X is still 12MP, and the wide-angle is 13MP (G8 and V50 are 16MP super wide-angle). The front-end is a 32MP Quad Bayer frame camera, which is not a front-end of 8 million pixels.

LG G8X get started

The LG G8X ThinQ is easy to recognize with the G8X ThinQ. After all, it looks a lot like the previous G8 and V50. Most mobile phones have recently adopted a double glass structure, and the G8X is no exception. The Gorilla Glass 6 panel is used on the side and back of the display.

LG G8X Camera

Like some of the company’s previous models, the G8X has been tested to the MIL-STD-810G military standard. It passed 14 categories of drops, temperature, humidity, dust, and other tests. Most of the flagship phones of this year have this standard.

The difference between this generation of LG phones and other brands of phones is that the camera is flush with the back surface, so the G8X’s rear camera does not bulge. In addition, the 8X is also a classic main + wide-angle solution, unfortunately, there is no telephoto camera.

Fortunately, LG is trying to return to the 136° super-wide field of view provided by G5, and LG prioritizes distortion correction rather than coverage. Unfortunately, this machine is an early trial sample and cannot be sampled for evaluation.

Going back to the smooth, uninterrupted back, you will find that the 8X has no rear fingerprint sensor. When a large number of friends are using the pre-fingerprint, LG is still researching the fingerprints, and the fingerprint scheme in the screen is no longer radical, and now it is followed.

One advantage of placing the fingerprint module on the screen instead of the back is that it can now be used with the Dual Screen accessory – later on.

LG G8X ThinQ Front Face

Compared to the G8, the G8X’s screen has somewhat regressed. It has a larger diagonal size of 6.4 inches (compared to the G8’s 6.1 inches), but the resolution has dropped from the G8’s 1440x3040px to 1080x2340px. In terms of pixel density, this is not the most advanced technology, but it is not a big fruit. In addition, as an OLED, the G8X’s display has good outdoor clarity.

The G8X’s water droplets are much smaller than the G8’s bangs because it only needs to accommodate a single camera. LG gave up the ToF module, so there is no palm gesture or Hand ID on the G8X, although no one is using it. In addition, the front 32MP Quad Bayer sensor is a few miles ahead of the conventional 8MP selfies offered by LG’s previous high-end devices. Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to test it.

On the system side, LG will be ready to completely redesign LG UX 9.0. However, we only saw it in the presentation. The early version of the G8X was not equipped, but according to the information collected so far, it is not bad, new fonts, new icons, and card interface.

In addition, LG mentioned that other software to be used on the G8X includes further upgrades to camera applications. LG has long been a leader in providing a large amount of manual control and unparalleled video recording.

We got the news that the G8X will seamlessly switch between the front and rear cameras when recording directly, but it is curious that this function does not support the 4K shooting. Then ASMR recording is also one of the expected functions.

LG Best Cam

The dual-screen Dual Screen was launched on the V50 in the spring and is now in the G-series. According to LG, this extra-fasten able display provides the best of both worlds – additional screen space when needed, and no extra volume when not needed.

Connected to the secondary screen, the size of the whole machine is 165.9×84.6×15.0mm in the closed state. The extra 134 grams added up to a total of 326 grams, which is a good example of leaving it at home without using a dual-screen.

Dual screen connection

Obviously, the extra weight and the bulky side will get the second display. It is exactly the same as the 6.4-inch OLD panel on the phone itself, and the secondary screen also has water droplets. Some people will complain that the secondary screen does not need to be equipped with a camera. Why do you need to make a water drop? Perhaps for visual symmetry.

So, you can also use the Dual Screen accessory as an improved advanced flip phone case. The cover protects the screen and can be rotated 360 degrees as an additional rear display. How to play, see what you like.

Dual Screen LG G8X

The G8X has a third display called Cover Display, a 2.1-inch monochrome OLED panel for notification and tracking time.

So, how do this sub-screen power and data transfer? First, put the phone into the Dual Screen accessory, then insert the phone case into the G8X’s USB-C port and get the power from the phone. – The accessory does not have its own battery. Since the G8X port is now occupied in this dual-screen mode, the G8X in the Dual Screen can be charged wirelessly (in this case, this will not happen), or it can be matched with the pogo pin at the bottom of the Dual Screen. The included adapter is charged.

To sum up

G8X ThinQ can be said to be a minor update to the G8 ThinQ released this spring, but it can be said to be a brand-new start. LG tried a lot of new things on 8X, so this half-generation update is full of test water taste. In general, this machine is not so exciting, but fortunately, this Dual Screen sub-screen set is a bit of interest.
