Design and ease of use: 2-in-1 can be used in various styles
The HP Chromebook x360 14 is a 2-in-1 laptop with a 360-degree LCD display. Standard clamshell laptops, tablets, and stand styles can be used in a variety of shapes depending on the application and scene.
As for the color, the top plate is ceramic white and the keyboard side and the bottom are cloud blue. The body is made of aluminum, and it has high quality and sturdy finish.
In particular, the ceramic white of the top plate has a ceramic-like texture as the name suggests, and has a smooth feel. The transparent white that cannot be realized by the general aluminum anodizing is impressive.
Colorful LCD display
The size of the LCD is 14 inches and the resolution is 1920 x 1080 dots. The liquid crystal display uses an IPS panel that excels in color and viewing angle. The image is very high in contrast and very colorful. It is also suitable for enjoying photos and videos.
The screen size is 14 inches and the resolution is 1920 x 1080 dots. Although the bezel width is as thin as 2.5 mm, including the non-display area, there are 7.5 mm left and right, 15 mm upper part, and the surrounding black is slightly conspicuous.
However, the surface of the liquid crystal display is a glossy glare type, and I was worried about the reflection. The glare type is better for touch panel accuracy, so there is no help for this point. The glare type has higher contrast than the non-glare, so there is a merit that the image is beautiful.
Shiny glare panel. If you are concerned about the reflection, we recommend using a non-glossy LCD protective sheet.
The keyboard has no numeric keypad and the key pitch (key-to-key spacing) is slightly smaller at 18mm. When I actually used it, I thought it might be a little small, but there wasn’t a big sense of incongruity. The fact that the keyboard layout is refreshing with alphabetical layout may also have an effect.
The keystroke is 1.5mm, which is the same as a typical Windows 10 laptop. The click feeling at the moment of pressing the key is light, but the force to push to the end is slightly stronger. Therefore, the response was felt fairly. There is a slight deflection around the home position, and I feel a little shaft blur at the moment the key is pressed. That said, you won’t be bothered by the usual usage.
If the type sound is a light touch, it is quiet and feels like a tact. If you hit it hard, it sounded tantin, but it was not noisy. However, because the type of feeling is light, it is generally suitable for people who input with a light touch.
2 ports available for Type-C terminal
Interfaces (terminals) for connecting peripheral devices are composed of USB3.1 × 1, USB3.1 Gen1 Type-C × 2, microSD card slot. There is no video output terminal such as HDMI or DisplayPort, but the USB Type-C terminal supports video output.
USB Type-C was able to charge even with a USB PD non-compliant charger, but it may take longer to charge because it is recognized as a “low power charger”.
The speaker is located at the top of the keyboard. Since the sound reaches the ear directly, the sound was clear and the surround sound was excellent. Although the low range is a little weak and the high range is shaky, there is no problem in listening to music casually.
However, the sound quality is slightly reduced because the speaker is hidden in shapes other than a notebook PC style. Especially in the stand style, the speaker was blocked by the ground surface, so it sounded like a loud sound.
Do I need Core i5 on my Chromebook?
In conclusion, it is necessary depending on the application.
There may be many people who have the image that the Chromebook is cheaper instead of the low spec. Certainly, browser-based work, use of Android apps, use as a thin client terminal in a company, etc. will not require high CPU performance and 8 GB of memory capacity.
However, if you use Chromebook for program and system development, operation management, etc., very high specifications may be required depending on its scale. For example, even if an Android application is created in a Linux environment, it should be strict in terms of performance with a model equipped with a CPU for entry. High-performance CPUs are required for heavy users who make full use of Chromebooks, not light users who mainly consume content.
There are situations where higher CPU performance is advantageous even at the personal use level. For example, in video editing, comfort may vary depending on CPU performance depending on the application.
Excel and Word are also available in the app. However, there were some problems such as the pull-down menu not being displayed for some reason. Instead of using Google Docs.
High-end model for those who want to use
The Superior model with Core i3, if you use a Chromebook for development or management, this is probably not necessary. In that sense, it can be said that it is a model for heavy users. It is also recommended for those who are no longer satisfied with the entry model.
