You can now watch Disney+ with friends using SharePlay if you’re a FaceTimer or an avid Disney fan.
Apple introduced its screen-sharing feature for FaceTime with iOS 15.1 . SharePlay lets you display playback controls for what you’re watching on everyone’s screen while on FaceTime simply by opening the compatible app during a FaceTime call. Please do not use SharePlay as a workaround for streaming for free.
Disney+ accounts are required for everyone on a FaceTime call, since the content will be streamed directly from the Disney+ app on each device.
With Disney+, you can have a screen-sharing party with up to seven people directly through the Disney+ app with a feature called GroupWatch. It is useful, but SharePlay’s capabilities are superior, since 32 people can watch the same video at once on a FaceTime call.
Apple users can also continue to use their device outside of a call when they use SharePlay, which displays the shared content as a picture-in-picture frame.
The Disney+ app must be installed on all devices running iOS 15.1, tvOS 15.1, or iPadOS 15.1. Disney+ Kids accounts cannot be used with SharePlay.
