With the rapid development of Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video often ranks third in discussions about streaming media, second only to Netflix and Hulu, and even fourth. However, this technology and retail giant’s streaming service has its own strength, including many high-quality original shows and movies, impressive old catalogs (and B movies you’ve never heard of), And the NFL on Thursday night.
If you have subscribed to Amazon Prime’s free shipping service, then Video products will be a very good additional feature. And, if you don’t, it’s still worth paying $9 a month, especially if you are interested in any of its Amazon Original shows or large movies.
On the other hand, Prime Video is more like a complimentary service of Netflix and Hulu, and overall is weaker than both. It cannot replace Netflix’s huge catalog of original and popular shows, nor can it compete with Hulu’s large collection of old and new TVs.
If you don’t have a Prime subscription yet, we definitely recommend that you choose one of these two subscriptions first, but most likely you have already got the video part for free.
Even if you give up the cable company, you can still keep up to date with the latest series and movies by subscribing to one or more video streaming services. Amazon Prime Video provides a growing library of high-quality original content, as well as a large number of streaming movies and TV shows.
Subscribers can also choose to download content for offline viewing, and even watch 4K subtitles. Most importantly, Amazon has an impressive catalog of TV shows and movies available for rent or purchase. However, it does not have as many high-quality programs as top services, and it will continue to lose third-party content.

What can you watch on Prime Video?
Although Amazon Video was originally used as a place to buy and watch TV shows and movies, the industry has changed. Amazon has embraced the world of unlimited, self-service streaming, and only pays once a month. For example, Amazon’s growing library of excellent original content, such as Bosch, “Catastrophe”, “Electric Dream”, “Electric Dream”, “Flea”, “Good Omen”, “Homecoming”, “Hunter”, “Jack Ryan”, “Story from the Cycle”, “Mrs. Marcel”, “Patriot”, “Boys”, “Unfinished”, upload and utopia. Amazon even saved The Expanse from the cancellation.
Amazon has also produced a series of films based on the Fallout series, one of which is set in The Lord of the Rings, and the other is based on the huge “Wheel of Time” fantasy series.
The list of original movies is constantly growing. Although not as big as Netflix or HBO Max records, many shows are on par in terms of quality. Prime Video’s original shows are also better than Hulu’s videos.
You can get more than just Amazon’s original works through Amazon Prime Video, including programs such as Chuck, Burn Notice, Hannibal, Mr. Robot (Seasons 1-3), and “The American” at no additional cost. Please note that Prime Video has dropped shows such as Justified, X-Files, and Veronica Mars to Hulu.
Other HBO and NBC previously shown by the service have also left or are about to leave. Amazon Prime Video has up to show shows of any streaming service, but when you filter by quality, Netflix and Hulu are better choices.
The Prime Movie Library also contains popular movies, although the available titles often rotate. Like Netflix, it also creates original movies, such as “The Swinger”, “Dear Boy”, “Manchester by the Sea”, “My Spy”, “League of Legends”, “Aviation”, “Major Ill” and “Report “. The performance of these films is not as good as Netflix’s “The Irishman”, “El Camino” or “Roma”.
Prime Video has more movies than any other service, but when you filter the quality, the number is the same as the number of Netflix. Of course, if you like B movies (or even C and D movies), you might disagree!
Dedicated movie streaming services tend to provide more selected titles and more supporting content. Both Mubi and The Criterion Channel are great choices for movie lovers.
What is Prime 101?
Amazon Prime Video (sometimes called Prime Video) is Amazon’s TV and movie streaming service. Before the release of Prime Video as we know it today, Amazon launched its online movie rental and download service Amazon Unbox long before Netflix launched online streaming in 2006.
In 2011, as a way to enhance the Prime subscription service, Amazon created Amazon Instant Video, which provides Prime subscribers with access to 5,000 streaming movies and TV shows.
Unbox officially closed in 2015, and Amazon started selling its streaming service, Amazon Prime Video. It was provided as a standalone service outside of Amazon Prime in 2016.
If you are one of the more than 150 million people worldwide who subscribe to Amazon Prime’s free two-day delivery service ($13 per month or $119 per year), the service will include Prime Video.
If you don’t have an Amazon Prime account, you can still subscribe to Prime Video for $9 a month, which is the same price as Netflix’s Basic Plan and a few dollars more than the Hulu Plus Ads plan.
Prime Video subscribers can subscribe to HBO, Showtime, Starz, Paramount Plus, and several other channels for an additional monthly fee.
Anime on Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video does not perform well in animation and cartoons, although it does provide a series of animated children’s programs and some anime titles. VRV is our “editor’s choice” for watching animation, partly because it has a large number of series of movies and movies, although Hulu and Netflix both provide some animation works.
In terms of other animation programs, Netflix topped the list with original works such as Bojack Horseman and Matt Groening’s Disenchantment. Hulu is another good choice for animation programs that premiere on traditional cable networks.
Sports Content on Amazon Prime Video
In addition to on-demand content, Amazon will also host some live NFL games on Thursday nights in the 2020-2021 season, provided that these games happen. But please note that other NFL streaming services provide more comprehensive coverage.
Amazon also produced an “all or nothing” series, which will follow various professional sports teams throughout the season. However, if you are a stubborn sports fan, fuboTV or ESPN+ are better sports streaming services, especially for live broadcasts of their games.
However, Amazon does allow subscribers to add Prime Video Channels to existing subscriptions, some of which focus on sports. For example, users can subscribe to MLB.TV, NBA League Pass, and PGA Tour Live through their Amazon Prime Video account. Of course, each of these channels will add significant costs to your monthly or annual subscription.
Not everything in Prime is Prime?
Unlike Hulu and Netflix, Amazon sells TV shows and movies separately from their main subscription content for rent and/or purchase, including new versions such as The Croods: A New Age and Freaky. As the pandemic forced cinemas to close, in March 2020, Amazon also launched Prime Video Cinema, which is a center full of movies, otherwise, these movies would have been shown in theaters such as the Troll World Tour and Minari.
These paid rental (or purchase) titles can also be displayed on some Prime menus and mixed with the “free” content you can stream in your subscription. The mix of content is confusing and even looks like another incentive to buy something.
But Amazon has since changed the Prime Video layout to make it more clearly display the content contained in Prime (usually with a blue Prime label) and paid content (with a golden dollar sign). But this seems to be different on different devices.
Otherwise, the interface of Prime Video is very similar to that of Netflix and other streaming services. At the top, you will see the “Search”, “Home”, “Original”, “Movies”, “TV”, “Kids”, “Purchase and Rental”, “Watchlist” and “Settings” tabs.
As you scroll, you will see personalized categories, such as popular movies and TV shows that we think we like based on the movies watched, followed by more typical categories such as trending TV and top movies.
Prime Video’s nested menu is similar to the menu on Netflix. Click on the title and you will see the description, IMDb score, and features that you can watch immediately, as well as view other rental or purchase options.
If the title you choose is not included in Prime, this page will show you the cost of renting or purchasing on the platform.
You can watch Amazon Prime Video on Amazon Fire TV ($34 on Amazon), Fire TV Stick or Fire Tablet and Apple TV ($180 at Best Buy), Roku, Xfinity X1, smart TV, Blu-ray player, game console, IOS device or Google Chromecast ($22 on eBay).
Complete Video Streaming Package
Amazon Prime Video provides a large number of exquisite original works at reasonable prices and continues to introduce new streaming media features. Besides, Prime Video is available on almost every platform you can name and allows you to buy or rent shows and movies that are not included in its subscription.
The main disadvantage is that the service does not have as many high-quality programs as our preferred product, and it will inevitably cause more content to be lost to competitors.
Netflix is the winner of the “Editor’s Choice Award” for on-demand video streaming because it has the best original and movie library. Hulu combines a huge on-demand library and lives TV functions, so it has great value. The intuitive interface and rich channels make YouTube TV impressive.
If you don’t have Amazon Prime, is it worth paying for Prime Video?
It depends on what you are looking for in the streaming service. If you are a big fan of movies (good, bad, and everything in between), then a Prime Video subscription may be worthwhile for a large catalog of movies-especially if you can use it instead of expensive Digital leasing.
More and more high-quality Amazon original collections are also attracting people’s attention-especially because there are no advertisements in any exhibition. For those who own 4K TVs, the large number of 4K HDR products is a plus.
However, if you prefer to watch TV shows and Amazon Originals does not interest you, then subscribing to Netflix or Hulu may be fine. Either way, you can try Prime Video for free for 30 days-just make sure to cancel before the automatic update.
