New rumors suggest that 2K Games is preparing a host of new titles, including a Marvel strategy game from one of its subsidiaries, XCOM, and a Borderlands spinoff called Tiny Tina.
According to Video Games Chronicle, the scuttlebutt is the result of a leaked games list posted to Reddit, which was later verified by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier.
In 2012, Firaxis launched the reboot of the XCOM series beginning with XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Following XCOM: XCOM Declassified, several sequels, and prequels were released, including XCOM 2 and XCOM: Chimera Squad.
Though tactical games are versatile, they might also be a good fit for Marvel’s superheroes, since each of them has its own unique abilities. A notable crossover title from the subgenre to be released on the Nintendo Switch in 2017 was Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle from Ubisoft.
Fire Emblem was long before that, a series of tactical war simulations. 2K could attract a whole new audience by incorporating Marvel’s superheroes into the XCOM mix.
The leaked list also reveals that the Borderlands spinoff is called Wonderlands and will star Tiny Tina, a character from the second Borderlands game who has been in all its subsequent installments.
As well, she appears in the upcoming Borderlands movie from schlock jockey Eli Roth, which will also star Ariana Greenblatt (from Love and Monsters).
The developer of Borderlands, Gearbox Software, recently merged with Embracer, an ever-expanding company that is aggressively acquiring independent game studios.
Randy Pitchford, the Gearbox founder, and Borderlands series publisher said at the time of the deal that he would continue running the company.
Moreover, a new action game called “Cthulhu meets Saints Row” is rumored to come from Hangar 13, which created Mafia.
A report previously indicated that the studio was working on an open-world sci-fi game. H.P. is at the core of all this. Lovecraft’s horrifying entity, however, is still a mystery.
